Hilda Baci’s Guinness World Record (GWR) for the longest cooking marathon (cook-a-thon) by an individual has been confirmed.
An official adjudicator of the Guinness World Records, Mark Mckinley, announced Hilda Baci’s confirmation on Tuesday 13/6/23 in a video.
The GWR official was also seen posing with Hilda Baci’s certificate, while Hilda’s confirmation video was followed by an official statement one month after Hilda’s cook-a-thon.
“Following a thorough review of all the evidence, Guinness World Records can now confirm that Hilda Effiong Bassey, better known as Hilda Baci, has officially broken the record for the longest cooking marathon (individual), with a time of 93 hours 11 minutes,”
According to the Guinness world record, Hilda Baci attempted to set a record of 100 cooking hours, however, about seven hours were deducted from her final total cooking hours because she inadvertently took extra minutes during one of her rest breaks during the longest cooking hours by an individual attempt.
“As with all ‘longest marathon’ records, the participant is permitted a five-minute rest break for every continuous hour of activity. These rest breaks can be accumulated if not taken. They were the only times Hilda could use the bathroom or sleep during the attempt,”
The previous record holder of the longest cooking hours by an individual, chef Lata Tandon from India cooked for 87 hours and 45 minutes in 2019. To surpass this record chef Hilda Effiong ( Hilda Baci ) cooked for 100 hours and 40 minutes (4 days cook-a-thon) on May 15th 2023.
According to Chef Lata Tandon’s live Instagram session, she revealed that it took about two months before her record of the longest cooking hours by an individual was declared and a certificate presented to that effect by the Guinness world records
